Esther She cried when she saw me. I don't blame her. I looked nothing like I looked the last time she saw me, and it was a shock. I get it. Lately I shock myself when I catch myself in front of the mirror. That guy in the mirror looks bad. Certainly he looks worse... Continue Reading →
Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself #9 (Count your blessings, Fishing with Captain Know Fish, America’s ass)
Count your blessings 1) The woman was in her late 60's when she died in her small apartment. She had left a trail of bodily fluids from the sofa in the living room to the bathroom where she was found dead sitting on the toilet. She was only found on the same day she died... Continue Reading →
Life in the Time of Corona #9 (In the time of Corona no one can see you smile, Mom and Dad, And then there is this…)
In the time of Corona, no one can see you smile. If you smile I smile and if you say hello I say hello. Doesn't matter if I know you or not. A smile is just a nice greeting to share with people as you pas them by. I realized the other day while at... Continue Reading →
Life in the Time of Corona #8 (That just ain’t right, Bang away, Pain in the time of corona, Love me a good poet)
That just ain't right During these times when Captain No Fish is not allowed near his office for work (if you can call it that) we sometimes have coffee in the mornings outside. We usually take our coffee in my patio since it is more open and you can see more of the outside world,... Continue Reading →
Life in the Time of Corona #7 (What is the count?, Through the eyes of a pandemic, Is there a doctor in the house?, Blue gets bored.)
It's so strange though. Hard to process it all. Even harder to know what steps we truly need to be taking, where the line from preparation and panic lies anymore. Not sure how to make this new reality fit into my world. -Brittany Mackenzie What's the count? This is the question we wake up... Continue Reading →
Life in the Time of Corona #6 (Ginger Snap Cookies, Pain is relative, Captain No Fish makes it into the 21st century, and Pain is not relative)
Ginger Snaps About a week ago I had gone to our local HEB grocery store to get some things (all essential, trust me). I walked into the bread and pastry aisle to look for some Oreo Double Stuff cookies (okay, I lied about essential) and all the shelves were bare. I walked up and down... Continue Reading →

Every child belongs to mankind's family. Children are the fruit of all humanity. Let them feel the love of all the human race. Touch them with the warmth, the strength of that embrace. - Children of Sanchez (soundtrack), Chuck Mangione The children Kids, especially the kids that are old enough to have some understanding of... Life in the Time of Corona #4
Just from where I sit Sitting on my patio watching the world go by I sometimes wonder if I would notice a difference in the world if I had just woken up from a month long sleep. If I woke up with no knowledge of the coronavirus. What would I notice if I woke up... Continue Reading →
It’s the little things, again.
Was thinking of time-travel today.
The Detective and The Case of the Missing Lol
There is no such thing as time travel, or at the very least, if it is possible it will not be discovered in my lifetime. I know this because if that were true I would have come back from the future already a dozen times in my lifetime up to this point to stop me from doing some of the dumb things I eventually ended up doing. Still, when I am about to embark on a new stupid thing, I always set my timer for 5 minutes and wait, giving my future self a little extra time to get here and stop me just in case. So far he has not. And if time travel is not discovered in my lifetime, then I can also rest assured that I have not done anything so incredibly world endangering and stupid enough up to this point that would make some complete stranger…

Life in the Time of Corona #2
Captain No Fish is non-compliant. He just won't stay home. Sure, he's a judge and has judgy things to do once in while. He is well known in the law enforcement community for dismissing citations and pissing off cops. I could well change his name to Judge "case dismissed" G****. But I won't . Captain...
